Noi Italiani D’Oggi (NIDO) is a non-profit Italian-American Cultural Organization operating out of Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.  It is dedicated to promoting the Italian culture and language. NIDO is a member of the Coalition of the Italo-American Association of New York, and The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF).   NIDO meets the first Thursday of each month (Sep-June) at 7:00 pm at the Italian Center, in Poughkeepsie, NY, unless otherwise specified. (Nido si riunisce il primo Giovedi del mese alle ore l9:30 all’ltalian Center, a meno chè sia detto altrimenti.)

History of NIDO
In March 1985, Anna d'Aniellio Kossman asked 12 Italians to attend a meeting at the Denimark restaurant on Route 44.  There these good people decided to start NOI ITALIANI D’OGGI (NIDO).   NIDO would be a different type of Italian Club.  One devoted to the rich Italian culture and language. A month later NIDO had its first election, held at the Italian Center.  Anna Kossmann  was elected President, Anna Antonelli Vice President, Dr. Cavallaro Secretary, and Sirena Losee Treasurer. The following month LA VOCE DEL NIDO (the monthly newsletter) was started.  NIDO was growing in membership and notoriety. Soon after AnnaMaria Park and Anna Kossmann, teachers by profession started LA SCUOLA ITALIANA which offered three levels of Italian Language instruction. And before too long NIDO was a force in the community.  It helped to obtain RAI TV on local cable, an Italian radio program on local radio, and the Italian language elective in the Arlington, Newburgh, and Wappingers school districts.  It also helped make Opera a regular event at the Bardavon.  Its social events started to bring pride and joy to many.

A Member’s View of NIDO
Noi Italiani D'Oggi (NIDO) provides its members and guests many opportunities to speak, “practice,” or learn the Italian language.  It affords us venues to learn more about and promote the best of our Italian Culture and Traditions.  It has many members with special talents, and we all share our experiences and acumen.   We have fun, we learn, we grow in some way together.  We need more youth, and (they may not realize it) they need us too.  Our heritage is rich and spans thousands of years.  We are critically proud of it and our beautiful language.   One just has to look at our newsletter (“La Voce Del NIDO”: in Italian and English) to see the richness of our culture and the talent of our members.
